Hussein Rostum

[HUSSEIN ROSTUM]Hussein Rostum has been the President and owner of Bytown Consulting since 2001. He has been consulting out of Ottawa for over twenty years. He began his career as an economist with Bell Canada, and then as a manager of evaluation and an economist at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. His consulting work began in 1982 as the founder and President of Teega Research Consultants Inc., then as a Director with Nordicity Group Ltd., a Principal with PricewaterhouseCoopers, and a Principal with KPMG Consulting.

Hussein's consulting practice includes innovative methods and solutions to address business management challenges within public and private organizations, from front-end planning to program and policy implementation and review. His expertise encompasses several industry sectors and federal, provincial and municipal government jurisdictions. He is also an expert on the voluntary standards system in Canada and the regulatory regime. His consulting engagements have taken him throughout Canada and the United States, and to other countries including Australia, Belgium, Chile, China, Egypt, France, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, and the United Kingdom. He has an MA in economics from the University of Windsor, Ontario, and a BA from the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

Sam Rostum

[SAM ROSTUM]Sam Rostum has been a senior member of the Bytown Consulting leadership team since 2003. He is a graduate of Princeton University (Bachelor of Science in Engineering) and Queen's University (Master of Business Administration) and is fluently bilingual in English and French.

Sam brings to Bytown Consulting his expertise in international strategy, program management and evaluation, corporate finance, and strategic evaluation of new technology commercialization opportunities. Before joining Bytown Consulting, Sam has held leadership roles in technology, planning, and finance functions in Canada, America, and New Zealand.

He has previously worked at Datacom Systems and The Simpl Group in New Zealand, where he was a senior manager responsible for the financial and delivery management of large consulting teams. Prior to that, he managed projects at the Dell Inc. headquarters in Austin, Texas. While at Dell, he ran an engineering team developing new computer product lines, and as a project manager was responsible for creating and evaluating performance and quality control standards. He represented Dell in China, ensuring that products developed by Chinese teams met Dell's cost, quality, schedule, and performance targets. He was also involved in a variety of commercial, manufacturing, and user requirements negotiations and global management assignments on behalf of that company.

Eliane Thonney

[ELIANE THONNEY]Eliane Thonney has been a consultant since 1990, first with Teega Research Consultants Inc., and then with Bytown Consulting. Prior to that, she was a quality manager at Bell Canada, and an information officer at Public Works and Government Services Canada. As a consultant, she specializes in market research, benchmarking analysis, and competitive and technical intelligence assignments. She is a francophone, fluently bilingual in French and English, and has led several executive and expert consultations for government program and policy evaluations.

Eliane has also managed local and national surveys - including conducting a survey of high tech companies, a survey of biotechnology organizations, a survey of Internet users in Quebec, a survey of the Aboriginal tourism sector, and a survey of senior citizens and housing in Ottawa. She has managed conference events for international forums and has worked as an information specialist for the Canadian Business Service Centres of Industry Canada. She has also developed country and industry profiles for several Canadian and international Bytown assignments.
